Critical Teacher Shortage (CTS) Forgivable Loan ProgramCriteria: Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate study or 9 credit hours for graduate study for each academic term in which an award is received. Applicant must not have participated, nor may they currently or in the future participate, in any of the following programs: Critical Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness, Critical Teacher Shortage Scholarship Loan, Masters' Fellowship Loan for Teachers, "Chappie" James Most Promising Teacher Scholarship Loan, or the Paul Douglas Teacher Scholarship. Applicant must not owe a repayment under any state or federal grant or scholarship program, must not be in default on any federal Title IV or state loan program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made. Applicant must be recommended for acceptance or currently enrolled in a state-approved teacher education program leading to a certification in a critical teacher shortage subject area. An initial applicant must declare an intention to teach in Florida public elementary or secondary schools for the number of years the loan is received. For an initial undergraduate loan, a participant must be an upper division student, have scored at the 40th percentile or better on the SAT or ACT, and have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate work. For an initial graduate loan, a participant must have received a bachelor's degree from any college or university accredited by one of the six regional accrediting associations specified by the Florida Department of Education, have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate work or scored at least 1,000 on the GRE, not have received a bachelor's degree in education in a critical teacher shortage subject area, not hold a teaching certificate in a critical teacher shortage subject area, and not have received an undergraduate loan through this program.
