What Is The Job Description Of A Cosmetologist?

After you complete a course on cosmetology, now you need to apply for a job. When you go through the various advertisements you would find that there are various jobs in the market requiring a cosmetologist. Though the job title would depend on the education, expertise and experience of the cosmetologist there are some set job descriptions that suit a cosmetologist.

Educational requirement of a cosmetologist: To be a cosmetologist you need to get training in the course from either a private or a public school. It will take six to twelve months to complete a course and become a full fledged cosmetologist. If you want you can also opt for a higher diploma and it will take two to three years for completion.

These job descriptions of a cosmetologist are:

a) Hairdresser: Another description of this job is of hair stylist and for this kind of job you need to be a graduate from a cosmetology school. The job responsibilities include shampooing the hair, cutting hair in different styles, trimming the hair and coloring the hair.

b) Nail technicians: This job title involves the responsibilities of manicuring and pedicure. As a nail technician you are required to work as a manicurist, pedicurist, do nail coloring and provide nail extensions. Other than these responsibilities you are also required to advice the clients on how to take care of their nails as well as the skins of their hands and feet.

c) Shampooers: If you have this job description then you need to do the shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair of the clients coming to the salons and spas. You also need to do the shampooing for the wigs and the toupees.

d) Skin care specialists: This is another job for the cosmetologists. As a skin care specialist you need to provide facials, massages and other skin treatments to the clients. Threading, waxing, electrolysis, shaping eyebrows are the other job responsibilities of you if you are a skin care specialist. Another duty of yours as a cosmetologist is to provide advices to the clients regarding the skin care regimen they need to follow in order to have problem free skins and also to offer recommendations regarding the sort of make-up that a person needs to apply suiting his or her skin tone.

However these job descriptions also involve lots of other responsibilities like maintaining relationship with clients, taking care of the clients and selling the retail products of the spa or the salon to the clients.
