In the past, not a lot of people can afford or would even think of getting a doctorate degree. It was considered a privilege for the ones that can afford it or for the ones that are mentally gifted to qualify for a scholarship program. For those privileged, they go off to having good careers and were considered the cream of the crop in any society. But today, is have a masters degree is as common as having a common bachelors degree because of the number of colleges that offer different types of scholarships? The answer is no because even though there are a lot of masters degree graduates out there today, so are the increasing number of job opportunities waiting for these types of graduates. Having a masters degree is a definite edge because of the effort one puts just to be able to learn and understand all these information that not a lot of people would even consider important but in reality makes a huge difference when it comes to decision making and understanding problems within a small business or a big corporation. Now, there are several types of masters degree available in a number of huge universities but having scholarship programs should be the apple the every eyes should aim for. These scholarship programs not only level the playing field between the capable and the less fortunate but it also gives a chance to those intellectuals that are out there in this world.

November 6th, 2008 by theProfessor

While taking up your bachelors degree or some college degrees online, there comes some times when a student would feel like they do not want to continue with the particular program of study they started out with. Some students, after taking some majors of the course they have chosen realize that it was not that particular path they wanted to partake in. When it gets to this point, do not be afraid to shift out of your course of study. Some students feel scared to get out of the comfort zone they have been in for a long time. So they opt to just stay in the course even if they do like it. Bear in mind that if you do not like your course of study, it would be harder for you in the long run. It is better that you choose a course of study where in you would better excel in.

A student who wants to shift out of their course would best talk to the department where they are currently enrolled at. Ask them for the guidelines to shift course. Ask them for advice on what course would be best for them. If you have already chosen a different course to enroll it, ask them for advice on how to go about. Also inquire at the department of the course you would want to enroll in. ask them for their requirements for you to get in. After which, you can now go and process your papers to start enrolling in that course.

What Makes A Good University

One of the biggest decisions an individual would have to make in the lives is to be able to choose a good university. A good university would serve as the individual’s stepping stone as he or she would make his or her way into the real world. A good university would equip the individual with adequate knowledge that would aid that individual in his or her endeavors for the future. Lastly a good university would be able to bring out the best in an individual to make him or her into a better member of this society.

One thing that would make up a good university would be the choice of degrees they offer to students. They must have an array of degree programs that would allow the student to make a choice as to what bachelors degree they would like to enroll in. They should also be able to boast of a few of their degree programs where in they are known to produce choice graduates for that particular field. These degree programs they offer should have curriculums similar to other top universities around the world. This is necessary to ensure that the graduates they produce would be competent enough to compete in the global world. This would ensure that their graduate would be at par with other students from other top universities.

Another thing that would make up a good university would be the professors and instructors they assign to teach their students. The professors and instructors must be those of high caliber. They must have finished a masters degree or doctorate degree for them to be able to teach.

At the very least, they must be currently taking their graduate degree while they are teaching. This would ensure that the students would be of good quality too if they have professors who are specialized in the field that they teach. Another thing that separates a good university from an average university would be the core values they teach their students.

Some universities would boast of a system that employs the idea of cura personalis or personal care in their tutelage of the students. The teachers would closely monitor the students and be very sensitive to their needs. This would bring about students who will equally be sensitive to other people’s needs. Some universities would boast of a system that employs the idea of independence. They would leave their students to do their own studying as a way of teaching them about the real world.

The last thing that would separate a good university from an average one would be their graduates. What better way to look at a university than by looking at their products. Their products would show how the university was able to train their students to stand up by themselves in the real world. A lot of times this can be seen in the rate of employability. Employers would want to hire the best of the crop and those students from the universities they prefer would mean that the university probably did a good job of teaching the students.

But basically it is not the university that makes you. You need to choose a university that would suit the person you are. But take these things into consideration when looking at universities. Each university has its own strength. It is just up to you if you can find some similarities in the university’s strength and your own strength so that it can hone your talents.

What to Consider When Choosing a College?

Choosing the right college or university has never been so easy for students and families. Numerous factors are involved in selecting the right college and you must take the decision depending on academic performances. Many students do not spend enough time thinking about these factors, and they end up with unhappy results.

Things to Consider While Choosing a College

  • Size of the college: Colleges have varying sizes. Some colleges can enroll only 20 students, whereas there are others which can enroll more than 30,000 students. Ask yourself whether you want to attend a small institution or a large one.

  • Entrance Examination: All colleges have definite guidelines for accepting students. Before applying, it is crucial for you to understand that majority of the colleges require an entrance exam such as SAT or ACT with passing score. Some departments such as psychology department and nursing department have tough guidelines that require your entrance testing. Selecting a college or a university is not just about entrance guidelines; it can stop you from getting admission if you do not score well in high school.

  • Cost and Financial Aid: Cost is the most important thing that parents think off while admitting their children into a college. Before you choose a college, you must consider whether the college offers financial aid and scholarships. Also consider whether your grades, athletic ability or musical talent is enough for you to earn scholarship. Government colleges often provide lower tuition rates compared to private colleges.

  • Knowledge of career field: If you have a general idea regarding the career field you want to pursue, you will be able to determine the college that is just perfect for you. Every college or university does not offer the degree you are looking for; hence, you must do some vital research before you apply for any college. From the university website you can get a list of degrees provided by the institution and can also learn about the programs on offer.

  • Distance Vs close to home: One biggest problem faced by most learners is whether to move away from home or to attend a neighboring college. Most parents want their children to study from home to clear living expenses. A major concern faced by students while moving off to institution and colleges is lack of support from their family. College is quite stressful, and students can experience lack of interest in studies if they face such problems.

Don’t ever apply to a university or college only because it is a famous school, or because your friend has applied there. Here are the questions that you must ask yourself:

  • Type of college: What type of college do you want to attend? Do you want to study in a four year college or two year institution?

  • Location of the university or college: Which location is preferable for you? Do you want to stay close, or stay far away from your home? You must also consider whether you prefer to study in a small campus or a large campus college.

  • Cost of college: Before you select the college that is right for you just ask yourself whether you or your family can bear the cost of your college. Also consider whether the college of your choice offers scholarships.

  • Academics: Does the college of your choice have strong arts curricula that will help you to work in numerous career fields? What type of courses are offered by the institution and how much helpful are they?

  • Campus Life: Are recreational and athletic facilities such as theater, band, clubs, and intramural sports available with the college selected by you?

If you understand your requirements you will be able to narrow down your list of chosen colleges even further, and will be able to choose the college that is just perfect for you.
