The college text books are usually expensive. Therefore, they increase your educational costs considerably. On the other hand, you can conveniently buy used books as they are cheap and easily available.

How to buy a used textbook?

Find out your requirement: Before buying a particular text book, make sure that this is one you are looking for. Check for the following before buying the book:

  • The full title of the book
  • The edition of the book
  • The name of the author
  • The year of publishing
  • The name of the publisher

Spend some time to examine the available options: There will be more than one source to get a used book. Compare the prices and buy from the one who is offering the cheapest. You can also do some bargaining to get the best deal.

Apart from doing comparison shopping for prices, also check the condition of the books. Keep in mind that you will have to use the books for a couple of years. Therefore, buying a shabby book at a cheap rate will lead you nowhere.

Ask your fellow students and the seniors: Since your fellow students or the seniors have had a similar condition, it is best to take their opinion while buying a used book. They can even give you information about the vendors selling such books.

Moreover, if your vendor is mailing you the book, check the shipping and handling cost. Your fellow students and seniors can also give you detailed information about such costs.

Opt for early shopping, if possible: You need to keep in mind that there are several other students who will be opting for used books as well. Moreover, there may be a scarcity of the used books you are looking for. Therefore, starting early for your used books shopping will certainly give you an additional advantage.
