The trained people who help the Pharmacists to deliver medication and health care products to patients are called Pharmacy Technicians. Their daily task is to prepare prescribed medication; counting tablets and labeling the bottles are some important tasks assigned to them.
Doctor of smaller scale: For mild health problems like indigestion, mild fever and minor cuts and sore, you can take help of Pharmacy Technicians.
Administrative functions: Some of the administrative duties assigned to the Pharmacy Technicians are answering to the phone calls, stocking shelves and working as cash registrars. If you have any question regarding prescription, drug information and health related issues, then Pharmacy Technicians can be consulted.
Work under a superior: Pharmacy Technicians are allocated various responsibilities. There are no specific responsibilities as such. The pharmacy technician is required to follow the instructions and orders of his superior. In order to be a good pharmacy technician, one has to follow the said and unsaid guidelines with minute attention.
Check prescription mails: In mail-order pharmacies, the pharmacy technician may receive mails of prescriptions from the doctor. He has to make sure that the prescription mails are complete and accurate. Once the prescription mail is complete, the pharmacy technician is required to check before delivering it to the patient.
Maintaining Patient Profile: Pharmacy technicians are required to maintain the patient profiles. Here, the record of the patient’s name, the reason for his/her arrival, diagnosis of disease and ultimately the present condition of the patient should be recorded. This helps in later communication regarding the same problem of patient.
Claiming Forms and medication diagnosis: The Pharmacy Technician also prepares insurance claims forms, and also takes list of prescription and over-the-counter medications. In the hospitals and Nursing Homes, the pharmacy technicians are required to make the patients’ charts and organizing the appropriate medication.
Nature of work: The technician should also be able to assemble the entire set of medicine which the patient requires during the 24 hour span. Some pharmacy technicians are required to lift heavy boxes and mostly they work on their feet. They may also be required to use step ladders. Pharmacy technician may work part time or full time.
