It is said by many that having a roommate can either be a blessing or a nightmare. Roommates share stories of love, grief and sentiments. It is also a well known fact that roommates can increase your overall social circle and can be a life-enhancing experience for many students.

Calculating the Pros and Cons of Living with Room-mates:

1) Compatibility Factor comes first- All the success of a roommate relationship depends on the temperament of the individuals involved. If you are a shy and introverted type of person who generally prefers quiet activities at home, then similar kinds of temperament would suit you the most. If you have an outgoing tendency with lots of friends then you have to find a similar kind of person as roommate who would understand your temperament. With these, you can easily adapt yourself to the environment.

2) Privacy of your own- for people who have a tendency to stay alone, it is better to adapt with other roommate rather than stay alone. If the roommate hampers your private time, then you should not make a chaos. Learn to be more adaptable.

3) Trust - Trust is extremely vital for any relationship. Even if the person appears nice to you from far, getting near that person or staying in a single room with that person may change the relationship altogether. If you have a roommate then you actually give access to all your belongings to the person with whom you are sharing your room. Therefore trust plays an important role.

4) Learning to take responsibility – You should learn to take responsibility for every word you speak and for every action that you do. This is essential for everyone.
