The culinary programs offered by the Institute of Technology are designed to provide students with the skills needed to pursue a career in Culinary Arts. Aspirants have options of pursuing a diploma in:
- Baking and Pastry Specialist
- Culinary Arts Professional
- Culinary Arts Specialist
Graduates can look forward to exciting careers as professional chef, dessert specialist, bread and pastry specialist, catering manager, restaurant manager, patisserie specialist, food and beverage supervisor, gourmet specialty baker and many other culinary positions.
Baking and Pastry Specialist
This program delivers high quality professional education to students. The instructors have real world experience in the area and train students with the fundamental culinary skills necessary for baking and pastry creation.
The program covers the preparation and presentation of breads, specialty breads, cakes, chocolates, desserts, tarts and tortes. This combined with a hands-on approach to teaching and personal attention of the instructors produces marketable graduates who meet the standards of the American Culinary Certification for ServSafe.
Culinary Arts Professional (CAP)
Graduates of the Culinary Arts Professional diploma program from the Institute of Technology, have the skills, knowledge and experience that qualifies them to work as professional chefs, dessert specialists, restaurant managers, catering managers, or food and beverage managers.
The program is designed to help students develop their knowledge of the concepts, preparation and basic skills. They are also provided the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through a 180-hour externship.
Students are provided with a culinary kit that is included in the cost of the program. Practical application of the materials provided in the program would help students in developing professionally and feel more confident in the kitchen.
Culinary Arts Specialist
Institute of Technology ’s Culinary Arts Specialist program provides students with the overall knowledge of food safety and sanitation; it also trains them in industry-relevant skills which are vital for a Culinary Arts Specialist.
In this program students learn about the basic concepts of the food service industry. They are also taught how to create pastries and baked goods, develop and improve their skills in the kitchen, prepare French and classic cuisine presentations, discover the art of garde manger. The students are then given the opportunity to participate in a five-week externship in a professional kitchen.
Graduates of this program meet the American Culinary Certification standards for Safety and Sanitation (Supervisory Management and Nutritional Certifications). The extensive knowledge gives Institute of Technology’s graduates an upper hand when they apply for a job.
